A teaching qualification aimed at professional performers and vocational college graduates
Urdang Academy is an ISTD Approved Dance Centre offering all units of the Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) for the Modern Theatre and Tap genres. Urdang Academy is offering the qualification to graduates from vocational colleges and professional performers on a part-time basis.
The course is led by Dr. Nathan James who is a Fellow and Examiner for the ISTD and is a member of the tap faculty and tap teaching team.
Classes take place weekly on a Monday starting at 9.30am and will commence in September 2020. You will have 2 technique classes during the day (at Intermediate standard) and 2 sessions for subject analysis to focus on the teaching of technique syllabus.
The teaching/practical units are delivered face-to-face and all written units are now delivered online, so can be taken as a distance-learning course.
The DDE consists of the following content:
Unit 1: Preparing for Safe Teaching
You could be exempt from this diploma with a Trinity Diploma in Professional Dance/Musical Theatre (and some degree courses).
Unit 2: Observing, Assisting and Teaching Practice
You will be required to undertake 4 lesson observations, 5 lessons in an assisting teaching capacity and leading 5 lessons of 45 mins duration.
Unit 3: Vocational Graded Examination in Dance: Intermediate
Assessed through a practical exam – you will be exempt if holding Intermediates in Modern and Tap with the ISTD or other recognised exam bodies.
Unit 4: Dance Practice
You will be assessed on your syllabus and teaching knowledge in Modern and Tap focusing on Primary to Intermediate level.
Unit 5: Social, Emotional and Cognitive Development
A written unit focusing on the development of students. You will be assessed via a series of online tasks.
The fees are available upon application. To offer maximum flexibility, fees are payable per module and per genre so that you can spread the cost of the training. Learning materials (such as syllabus books) and examination fees are payable in addition to the module costs.
All applicants are required to have a pass mark for GCSE English. You should have a sufficient technical ability in the chosen genre/s of study and have passed or be able to pass the Intermediate Vocational examination.
You will be required to submit any evidence of prior learning (Intermediate report/s, Trinity or degree certificate) alongside a video submission for each genre that you wish to undertake.
If you wish to apply for the course please contact email@example.com for further information and registration documents.
"Doing my DDE at Urdang has been great. I have been given lots of support and guidance on both the practical and theoretical elements of the course. The course has helped me to fine tune my technique in addition to improving my teaching skills."
